"Master of the Macabre" WILLIAM CASTLE speaks from the grave
A SPECIAL MESSAGE FROM THE �MASTER OF THE MACABRE� WILLIAM CASTLE
Don�t think that a little thing like being dead would preclude me from attending �The Return of William Castle� retrospective at the Film Forum in New York City beginning Friday, August 27th (http://www.filmforum.org/films/castle.html)
I am very much present. And I do so remember how I loved scaring the living daylights out of all of you��But I�m not done yet. Not by a long shot.
I am sure you are dying to know what to expect from me now that I�m back with FROM THE GRAVE!, a new tale of terror and my first novel, that will scare a corpse out of his own grave. So, everyone, if you get a whiff of my beloved Don Diego #5 cigars during �The Return of William Castle� retrospective, don�t be alarmed, know I�m there with a grin that stretches from here to eternity. And for the faint of heart, beware we might meet in the �Coward�s Corner.�
WHO: My daughter Terry Castle will be on hand Friday night to introduce the opening double bill of �The Return of William Castle� retrospective. The dear child had a most unusual childhood and has endured the legacy of a father who is indeed larger than life. I wonder what she will say about me? Does she believe I�m back FROM THE GRAVE?
WHY: I never met a gimmick I didn�t like. Many consider me to be the godfather of the modern horror movie genre and and �experiential films.� And to think I died in 1977 thinking I was unsuccessful.
Background: I made over forty B movies following a formula for box office success: low-budget chillers geared to the burgeoning Youth-sploitation market including The Tingler, House on Haunted Hill, 13 Ghosts, Macabre, Strait-Jacket (the latter scripted by Psycho's Robert Bloch), and Homicidal � which TIME magazine liked better than Psycho. They called me a master of ballyhoo who shamelessly promoted his pictures with highly effective gimmicks, some of which will be lovingly re-created for the Film Forum�s 15 film retrospective, �The Return of William Castle� running August 27 through September 6 in NYC.

Troma Films booth at San Diego Comic Con 2010

Metal Life Magazine visited the Troma Entertainment booth at San Diego Comic Con 2010 and we checked out the wares. Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead of course was pretty popular. We briefly talked about the upcoming Toxic Avenger remake and the upcoming remake of "Mother's Day."
Lloyd was a very busy man as you can see when we had to find him hiding on the phone in front of some "off access" doors. With a ton of appearances scheduled and some more movies to make, Lloyd will probably be spending more and more time on that phone.

Halloween Horror Nights Scary Film Competition
Rob Zombie and Universal Studios Hollywood� are partnering to recognize the nation's top short-form film making horror genre talent.
Filmmakers have an opportunity to have their scariest short film rewarded with a TV broadcast of their work, a $1,000 cash prize and a trip for two to the opening night of Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood.

Reminder, Reaper Award Submissions Due July 30
Home Media Magazine and DreadCentral.com are excited to bring you Reaper Awards 2010, an awards campaign dedicated entirely to horror on home video. From cult classics to modern blockbusters and direct-to-video gems, we honor horror as it�s meant to be seen � raw and uncensored.
Reaper Award submissions are due July 30. On Oct. 12, �The Grimmys� will be awarded to the best DVDs and Blu-ray Discs of the year at the hauntingly historic Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel.

Eligible titles for submission will have been released on home video between Sept. 1, 2009, and July 31, 2010. A panel of judges will choose nominees in each category based on the entire disc treatment � transfer quality, sound and picture, menu design, ease of use, navigation, packaging and other elements relevant to the disc.
The entry fee is $150 per title, per category (i.e., one title in two categories = $300). There is no limit on the number of entries. In addition, event sponsors may receive free entries in accordance with their sponsorship package.
The �Grimmys� are handcrafted Grim Reaper statuettes designed and sculpted by Joe Sena, president of SphereWerx LLC, parent company of the FearWerx horror and EMCE Toy brands. The statuettes were cast by Paul Clarke of EMCE Toys and handpainted and assembled by Sena.

Horror took over the advertising inside the main halls of the San Diego convention center during Comic Con 2010. Resident Evil: Afterlife, The Walking Dead and True Blood banners were everywhere. It was nice to see and a welcome change from some of the usual lesser interesting advertising (we won't mention any names).

"Don't Be Afraid of the Dark" set for release Jan
Miramax Films have set January 21, 2011 as the release date for their new horror movie, "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark." Produced by Guillermo del Toro and Mark Johnson, directed by Troy Nixey, the film is about a young girl who accidentally awakens malevolent creatures in her father's house. Sent to live with her father and his girlfriend while they are renovating their house, strange events begin to happen. She must convince the grown ups that these creatures are real and that they are in danger before all is lost.
Starring Katie Holmes, Guy Pearce, Bailee Madison and Jack Thompson, this movie promises to deliver a few surprises and should start the year off right.

Building on the success and global awareness of the Horrorfest: 8 Films To Die For brand, After Dark Films has created the new AFTER DARK ORIGINALS (ADO) line-up in cooperation with Lionsgate and NBC Universal's SyFy.
AFTER DARK ORIGINALS' eight cutting edge horror films span the genre. Titles include Husk, Fertile Ground, Scream Of The Banshee, Prowl, The Task, Re-Kill, Seconds Apart and 51. Notable directors and writers include Brett Simmons, whose short film Husk took Sundance by storm several years ago, Steven C. Wizard World Adds Horror Pavilion To Comic Con Tour, Set To Debut At Anaheim!
NEW YORK and ANAHEIM, Calif., March 11, 2010 - Blood! Knives! Hockey Masks! Ominous Music! Horror fans, get ready for a celebration of all things gory and grisly as Comic Con debuts its year-long Horror Pavilion at the Anaheim Comic Con, April 16-18 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, Calif. The Horror Pavilion will feature an area dedicated to writers, artists, musicians, and actors the genre fans crave. From the classic to the contemporary, from the independent to corporate & major studios, the Horror Pavilion encompasses comics, video games, music, novels, and much more.
The Horror Pavilion has been created in conjunction with Michael J. Hein, filmmaker and director of the NYC Horror Film Festival, and Joseph B. Mauceri, executive editor of FEARSmag.com and programming director for the NYC Horror Film Festival.
"I'm totally blown away that Wizard is giving us the opportunity to partner with them so we can reach out to more filmmakers and bring their films to an even bigger audience," said Mauceri. Hein added, "Between Joe and me, we personally know or have worked with the majority of the people currently working within the genre. Plus, I know past festival attendees will agree that we know how to put on a killer event!"
